"Libraries enlighten and empower communities."
— Hepburn Library of Lisbon Strategic Plan 2020-2022
The Hepburn Library of Lisbon is chartered to serve a population of 4,102 residents in the Town of Lisbon, located in St. Lawrence County, New York.
Our mission is to enlighten and empower by providing programs and services that engage, educate, and enrich all members of our community and beyond.
The year 2020 has brought us joy and sadness. We are joyful to reach our 100-year landmark anniversary, and sorrowful that our world has been impacted by so many challenges.
As we all navigate this “new normal”, please know our library is committed to adjusting and adapting to best meet the needs of our community. We hope our next 100 years of library service in Lisbon are as rewarding as our first.

Public libraries are integral to education and learning from early readers through high school.
It's our goal to provide a wide range of reading materials and enrichment activities to supplement all varieties of learning.
In-school, school-at-home, and homeschool families will always have our support.
Search for children's books in our dedicated Kid's Catalog.
Do you have a reluctant reader at home? Let us help find just the right books for your child. We’re happy to hand-select a variety of books for all children to enjoy at home.
Our 2020 Summer Reading Program has taken a twist due to physical distancing requirements. Explore outdoor story walks, grab & go crafts, and online activities as we “Imagine Our Story” together.
For children participating in the Fun Reading Good Stories (FROGS) program at Lisbon Central School, our books are all marked with FROGS stickers and point values to help every kid achieve his/her reading goal.
Talking is Teaching
Join the library in Fall 2020 as we kick off our grant-funded Talking is Teaching program. Read, talk, and sing with the library every week and let’s help our babies, toddlers, and preschoolers read 100 books before kindergarten.

Libraries are like small businesses.
We understand the challenges and the rewards, and are positioned to provide many of the tools and resources to help you succeed.
Starting or running a small business is an amazing experience, and sometimes you just need a little help.
Maybe you need a break from home, from family, or from too many distractions. The library is just the place! Bring your laptop (or use our public computers), your travel mug of coffee, and your creativity.
Whether you’re writing a business proposal, filing your quarterly taxes, or reaching out to new clients via email, we are here for you.
Are you an artist or crafter? Or just have a huge pile of paperwork to sort through? Our conference tables provide plenty of space to spread out and tackle even the biggest projects.
Grow. Achieve. Thrive.
Sometimes life throws us a bunch of lemons.
We understand everyone needs a little help every once in a while.
We can’t help you complete your Census questionnaire or file your taxes, but we can help you find websites, phone numbers, and documents to download and print.
Looking for a safe, neutral environment for family visitation? We have books, games, LEGOs, and puzzles for families to read and play together in our children’s room.
Kids occasionally need extra help outside of school. The library is the perfect place for students and tutors to meet up and work on lesson plans and test-taking skills.
Home school families often need extra books to support their curriculum. We can help identify supporting books and extend loan periods to accommodate scheduling.
Adults needing help with GED preparation, math skills, and literacy help can work independently on library computers or wifi, or meet with their coaches one-on-one.
Library computers are great for those needing internet for driver, hunter, boater, or other online courses. Completion certificates can be printed when done.
Collaborate. Socialize. Celebrate.
When A. Barton Hepburn gifted the library to the Town of Lisbon in 1917, he ensured the Town would have a gathering place at the library. Today, we still embrace his vision, and our community room is routinely used for library programs, community service groups, private parties, and many other functions.
Our first floor community room is handicap accessible, with an adjacent kitchen and restroom. Capacity of the room and adjacent amenities is 109 attendees.
We want you to know what's happening at the library.
